Drawing strength from our cultural diversity, and sharing responsibility with the community for the well-being of our children, Otahuhu School has high expectations that all children will achieve to the best of their abilities and develop the attitudes and skills to grow as lifelong learners and successful members of New Zealand society.
Otahuhu Primary is a Positive Behaviour 4 Learning School. Our school Values are "H.E.A.R.T"... Honesty, Excellence, Attitude, Respect, Tolerance.
Otahuhu Primary School is the oldest school in the Otahuhu district and celebrated its 150th Jubilee in 2008. We have a proud history of serving our students and community well.
Today we have over 600 students who attend our school and more than 50 adults working on our staff.
The school has a history, which extends back to 9 August 1858 when classes were conducted for the first time in a building belonging to the Church of England. Since that time there have been many changes which have seen the school change from a District High School catering for both primary and secondary school students to the primary contributing school it is today catering for Y0-6 students only. Today we have over 500 students who attend our school and more than 50 adults working on our staff. The school continues to serve a diverse community and students attending are mainly drawn from Pacific, Māori, and Indian cultural backgrounds. Students are offered bilingual programmes in the Māori, Samoan and Tongan languages.
Bell TimesWe ask parents and caregivers to please make every effort to ensure your children attend school everyday. School starts at 8.45am and finishes at 2.45pm. It is very important that unless your child is sick or has a very good reason to be absent from school that they attend during these hours. Students who arrive late and leave early can disrupt learning time for the whole class. 8.45am - School Begins 8.55am - Fitness 10.15am - Brain Break 11.20am - Morning Tea Eating 11.25am - 11.45am - Morning Tea Play 12.45pm - 1.35pm - Lunch Play 1.25pm - 1.35pm - Lunch Eating 2.45pm - School Ends |

Kia ora OPS Whānau,
As you may have seen in the news recently, there has been a lot of media attention regarding school lunches, and of late, the certification and advertising around halal meals.
Although our lunch provider is different to the one that has been highlighted in the news, we wanted to provide some extra information on behalf of our provider (Lunchy) so that families can make informed decisions they are comfortable with.
An information sheet on special dietary meals is provided from Lunchy, but here are the key details regarding halal meals:
We want to remind families that we are always available to answer questions or pass feedback onto our providers. It is important to us that all of our students have access to school lunches.
Hopefully with this information you will feel confident to make the decision that is right for your family. If you do need to change your lunch option or choose to provide your own lunch to your child, please discuss this with your child's teacher.
Ngā mihi

Kia Ora,
This term the SwimMagic Programme will be taking place at the Ōtāhuhu Pool and Leisure Centre. All students will be participating in essential learning around swimming skills and water safety. Please ensure your child has appropriate swimwear and a towel for their sessions. The timetable for swimming sessions attached, and the first sessions begin in Week 3 (February 10th).
Please note that swimming lessons are a key part of the New Zealand Curriculum, and an important aspect of life in New Zealand, as such is it a compulsory part of learning at Ōtāhuhu Primary School. We want all of our students to leave primary school with the confidence and skills required to navigate water safely.
If there is a medical reason why your child cannot participate in swimming lessons this term, please contact your child’s teacher directly, or come to see the office. Additionally, if you would like to attend the sessions to support your tamariki and their teacher, please contact them to make these arrangements.
Ngā mihi,
Ōtāhuhu Primary School
