Drawing strength from our cultural diversity, and sharing responsibility with the community for the well-being of our children, Otahuhu School has high expectations that all children will achieve to the best of their abilities and develop the attitudes and skills to grow as lifelong learners and successful members of New Zealand society.
Otahuhu Primary is a Positive Behaviour 4 Learning School. Our school Values are "H.E.A.R.T"... Honesty, Excellence, Attitude, Respect, Tolerance.
Otahuhu Primary School is the oldest school in the Otahuhu district and celebrated its 150th Jubilee in 2008. We have a proud history of serving our students and community well.
Today we have over 600 students who attend our school and more than 50 adults working on our staff.
The school has a history, which extends back to 9 August 1858 when classes were conducted for the first time in a building belonging to the Church of England. Since that time there have been many changes which have seen the school change from a District High School catering for both primary and secondary school students to the primary contributing school it is today catering for Y0-6 students only. Today we have over 500 students who attend our school and more than 50 adults working on our staff. The school continues to serve a diverse community and students attending are mainly drawn from Pacific, Māori, and Indian cultural backgrounds. Students are offered bilingual programmes in the Māori, Samoan and Tongan languages.
Bell TimesWe ask parents and caregivers to please make every effort to ensure your children attend school everyday. School starts at 8:45am and finishes at 2:45pm. It is very important that unless your child is sick or has a very good reason to be absent from school that they attend during these hours. Students who arrive late and leave early can disrupt learning time for the whole class. 8:45am - School Begins 8.55am - Fitness 9:10am - Learning Block 1 10:15am - Brain Break 10:20 - Learning Block 2 11:20am - Morning Tea Eating 11:25am - 11.40am - Morning Tea Play 11:40am - Learning Block 3 12:45pm - 1:20pm - Lunch Play 1:20pm - 1:30pm - Lunch Eating 1:30 - Learning Block 4 2:45pm - School Ends |

Kia ora!
We've had such a great week seeing all of our whānau in for Learning Conversations. Thank you to everyone who has attended already or is coming this evening to meet with teachers and support your child's learning.
The weather is looking a little iffy to end the week, so we're inviting students to wear bright non-uniform clothes tomorrow to scare the rain clouds away!
Gold coin donations will go towards our ongoing camp costs.

Kia ora!
Please use Skool Loop to book your time slot - this is the easiest way to ensure your time is guaranteed. We recommend arriving 5 minutes before your time slot and waiting outside the classroom so that you can maximise your 15 minutes.
Instructions are attached for how to make a booking - it's super easy, and you can do all of your children in one go!
Please note: Room 5 (Mrs Shama Khan), Room 15 (Mrs Majda Cassiem) & Room 24 (Mrs Azreen Khan) will be making separate arrangements to meet with whānau due to Ramadan. Please keep an eye out for messages from them regarding booking times. Room 17 & 18 (Te Whānau Tūtakitanga) are also making separate arrangements to meet with whānau. You will not see those classes on the booking schedule due to this.
Academic Growth:
"What is the most important skill my child should master by the end of this term?"
"How does my child handle it when they encounter a difficult task or get stuck?"
"What are some goals my child has in class at the moment?"
"What data is available to track and support my child's academic growth?"
Social & Emotional Growth:
"Who does my child usually spend time with during group work or play time? Do they have good friendships?"
"How would you describe my child’s 'classroom personality'?"
"Does my child ask for help when they need it?"
Home-School Connection:
"What is one thing we can do at home this month to support what you’re doing in class?"
"Is there a specific habit or routine you’ve seen work well for my child?"
"What is a message we can reinforce at home that will help my child be successful in class?"
You don't have to ask all of these questions, but this guide will help you to gain useful information!
Kia ora OPS Whānau,
What a wonderful afternoon we had last Thursday. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy time with our children, and to all those families who stayed on for the bilingual hub hui.
We have a highlights video for you to enjoy. Click on the link below!
Don't forget! Whānau Day is tomorrow...

Kia ora Whānau,
Just a minor update to our Home Learning Workshops.
Tomorrow's session will begin at 9am, rather than 9:15am (this is in Room 9).
Also, students are welcome to wear non-uniform clothes on Thursday for the Whānau Day!
Don't forget that we have a Whānau Info Evening tonight in the staffroom at 5:30pm to learn about our new health programme for Y1-4 students.
Ngā mihi,
OPS
