School Aims and Goals


To provide a positive, nurturing and non-threatening place of learning where children's individual and diverse needs, abilities and learning styles are recognised and catered for in teaching methods, resources, experiences and opportunities.


Property

To have safe, attractive and well cared for school buildings, grounds and facilities which are well suited to the needs of children and their learning, and to promote shared responsibility and respect for the care and presentation of the school and its environs.

Community Partnership

To encourage and value parent and community interest, support and involvement in their children's education and the life of the school by having a welcoming atmosphere, good two-way communication and planned opportunities for coming together to share in activities that benefit children and their learning.

Cultural Diversity

To reflect the cultural diversity of the community in the school's programmes and practices while acknowledging and respecting the uniqueness of each culture and the importance to each person and whanau of knowing and showing their own cultural identity.

Tangata Whenua

To uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the special position of the tangata whenua in Otahuhu, and to promote te reo and tikanga Maori throughout the school.

School Self Review

To maintain ongoing self-review of the school's performance in relation to this charter and the school's policies and plans so that achievements can be recognised and priorities identified for improvement and further development.

Finance

To manage the school's funds in ways that benefit children's learning and enable the school to balance its short-term responsibilities with its commitment to ongoing development and progress.

Personnel

To be a good employer, to support ongoing training and professional growth, and to promote quality working relationships at every level of the school. To have a staff that reflects diversity, shows high standards of performance, and is able to work together as a team who share and promote the goals and values of the school.

Student Progress and Achievement

To regularly monitor children's learning to enable early planning of programmes and approaches in response to needs and strengths, and to obtain fair, dependable and balanced information about progress, achievements and expectations for reporting to parents and caregivers.

Curriculum Content

To present balanced programmes across all areas of the national curriculum with special emphasis placed on developing and extending children's language and communication skills, their sense of personal esteem, and their ability to relate and interact well with others.
